Tony Surtees, CEO, iPRIME – a subsidiary of Prime Media Group Limited (PRT)

Tony Surtees was one of the first to identify the spectacular impact that the web would have on our daily lives, shooting to prominence in the 1990s as Vice President of Yahoo!’s e-commerce division in the US.

A long term advocate of the “consumer in control” Tony believes that new consumer trends are driven not by a few influential opinion leaders influencing everyone else but by many easily influenced people influencing one another.

Tony believes that understanding the structure of social networks is essential for those marketers wishing to incorporate social influence into their campaigns.

Tony continues to develop media, communications and technology businesses, by actively investing in and contributing to the management of a handful of growth companies internationally. Tony is also a Board Member of Arasor International Limited an ASX listed developer of integrated optoelectronic chips and wireless solutions with operations in China, Japan and Mountain View, California.

Tony has also been a past NSW State President of the Australian Marketing Institute and a regular public speaker in the United States, Asia and Australia addressing numerous investment and industry forums. He co-authored an e-commerce marketing text with Seth Godin and is also an active committee member of Stanford Australia Alumni Association having co-founded the Stanford Australia Entrepreneurs Series. Tony is a guest lecturer for Macquarie University Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship as well as the Macquarie Graduate School Management. Stephen’s early career with Sensis saw him assume a marketing leadership role with White Pages®. In this role, he contributed strongly to White Pages® record as one of the highest performing directories businesses in the world.

In 2002, Stephen became responsible for leading the management and development of Sensis’ Yellow™ directories. In 2005 Stephen’s responsibilities were extended to include the marketing of Sensis’ Yellow™ brand and product portfolio.

Stephen has a Bachelor of Arts degree from LaTrobe University and an Executive MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management.

Ken Burke, Chairman, Founder, & Chief Evangelist, MarketLive

Ken founded the company as Multimedia Live in 1995 with only $500 in start-up money. Under his guidance it has grown into a leading provider of e-commerce software and related solutions. Inspired by strategies and business methods from the cataloging and direct marketing world, Ken masterminded the creation of the MarketLive Intelligent Selling System. He created MarketLive's enterprise-class e-commerce application as a tool to optimise all selling opportunities, build solid relationships with customers, and give merchants complete control over their online merchandising. A recognised e-commerce industry pioneer and visionary, Ken writes quarterly columns for Multichannel Merchant and Target Marketing magazines, and is often quoted in Internet Retailer and other industry publications. A dynamic and popular speaker, he is a regular contributor at retail and direct marketing events. Ken is also the author of the book “Intelligent Selling: The Art & Science of Selling Online.” He studied multimedia and the Internet at the University of Southern California, where he completed a BA in Marketing, then went on to complete an MBA with honors in Venture Management and Entrepreneurship.

Terry White, Chief Innovator, Amway Japan

Terry White is today the Chief Innovator for Amway Japan, after 5 years as Chief Communications Officer. His current responsibilities include building out a direct marketing channel for the $US1.3bn Amway affiliate in Japan.

Terry comes from an interesting background - firstly as a career Army officer in military intelligence, and subsequently in diplomacy as a diplomat for the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He joined Amway in 2001 as the result of a chance meeting with a headhunter at the Japan Rugby Union.

He completed the first (US) Direct Marketing Association course to be run in Japan at Temple University in 2002 with one of the very few High Distinctions to be awarded by the DMA, and has considerable experience in print, AV, direct response and digital marketing over the Web and mobile platforms.

In 2007, he was seconded to Amway's headquarters in Grand Rapids MI where he firstly designed the metrics set for Amway's global Business Intelligence initiative and afterwards led the global Social Media team for Amway's "Global Web 2.0" project.

He has lived in Tokyo for over 18 years with his wife Cheryl and family. You will see by his shape that his interests are food and wine, and he is an enthusiastic blogger and wiki contributer.

David is the General Manager of Marketing and Public Relations for Jetstar. With a wealth of international marketing and retail experience, David is responsible for the airline’s marketing strategy and implementation for Australian domestic, trans-Tasman and international long haul operations - successfully taking the Jetstar brand globally.

Vaughn Davis is a rare cat: a big-agency creative director with the heart of a direct marketer. What’s more, he didn’t rip it from some poor envelope-stuffer’s chest: it’s his own – shaped during a career spanning direct, interactive, retail, radio and brand. In the last 7 years at Y&R, Vaughn’s been intimately involved with effective and awarded response-centred campaigns for clients as diverse as Bank of New Zealand, Telecom New Zealand, Kiwi Bacon and today’s topic, the Electoral Enrolment Centre. Stephen Knowles
Stephen is CEO and founder of Downstream Australia.

Previously Stephen was a founding leadership team member for eBay Australia, where he spent five years in marketing roles, developing and managing the category management and internet marketing functions of the largest e-commerce brand in Australia.

Prior to eBay Stephen was involved in the development and management of Michael Page marketing in both Sydney and London.

Stephen holds an Economics degree from Nottingham University.

Justin Hind
Justin joined Downstream Marketing from BMF in September 07, where he was Head of Digital and Direct, responsible for building the agency’s digital capabilities. Professionally Justin has a background in Economics, Commerce and eCommerce that he has successfully adapted to the world of marketing and advertising, CRM, direct marketing, data and analytics and online marketing marketing. Justin’s credentials extend across a number of brands including Microsoft, Telstra, Xbox, Foxtel, Ford, Colonial First Sate, Energy Australia, Optus Business, Macquarie Bank, Ford and IBM.

Prior to BMF, Justin was Head of Direct & Channel Strategy at Leo Burnett and previously held the position of Director of Strategy and CRM at Wunderman, part of Y&R Brands.

David Whittle

In May 2007 David launched Mark. This new agency combines the digital, direct and data marketing disciplines of M&C Saatchi. Conscious that marketing is now more a science than ever before, Mark is committed to developing infectious, indelible ideas that mark minds to elicit measurable behaviour.

Prior to the launch of Mark, David was busy not only overseeing the growth of M&C Saatchi Digital in Sydney, but also establishing and managing the digital teams in Melbourne, Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Los Angeles and New York.

Before joining M&C Saatchi in August 2003, David grew and led a large team of digital marketers at BLUE Interactive for five years. In 2006 BLUE was acquired by Clemenger.

In 1999, during his time at BLUE, David and two partners founded Traffion. This JBWere-funded technology company provided web based marketing analytic tools. Traffion was acquired by Red Sheriff and later by Netratings (NAZDAQ: NTRT).

David has a BA/BCOM from Deakin University with majors in Marketing, eCommerce, Public Relations and Sociology.

He has successfully led a Digital Agency of the Year team and been recognised by his peers, winning Victorian Young Direct Marketer of the Year in 2004 and in 2007 was the second youngest person included in the top 40 most influential people in the Australian Digital industry.

John Richardson
John started consulting to the South Sydney Rabbitohs in May, 2006 on everything from Sponsorship to Merchandise. He joined the staff in 2007 as the Consumer Relations Group Manager working across membership, merchandise, media, PR, marketing, and ticket sales coordination.

He has an MBA from Columbia University (New York, USA) with a focus in Entertainment.

His main goals are to increase ticketed Membership at SSFC to 20,000 over five years, double average game day attendance, and make sure the Club is communicating and servicing its Members and fans in the most dynamic and exciting ways possible, with a heavy focus on website and multimedia offerings.

John has worked for Peter Holmes à Court since 1999 starting out at his New York based Back Row Productions, before joining him in Sydney to work on the public listing and growth of the Australian Agricultural Company.

John is originally from New York City but has been living in Sydney since 2001.

Nick Bolton
Viocorp enables corporates to publish their own digital media using Viostream - a Software as a service (SaaS) digital media publishing application. Nick undertook his first live webcast in 2000 (Australia’s first live medical operation to 40 venues across the world), and has run hundreds of live and on-demand webcasts. Nick now consults to large organisations on integrating audio and video into their internal and external communications.

Nick is also a NSW Committee member of AIMIA (Australian Interactive Media Industry Association).

Jenny Williams, Principal, Ideagarden Consulting

Jenny has been in technology driven marketing (on and offline) for the last 20 years. She has worked across Asia, America and Europe and is focused on driving innovation, growth and the evolution of the digital marketing industry.

As a director on the national board of the Australian Direct Marketing Association, a member of the digital round table of industry bodies and vice chair of the digital division of the AFA, Jenny is actively engaged in defining the Australian digital industry and in 2007 was named in B&T’s Digital Media Magazine as one of the "40 Biggest Players of the Digital Age”.

As an educator, Jenny is a head lecturer for the UTS AFA Ad School digital marketing program, She also chairs the digital education committee for the board of ADMA and is actively involved in cross industry training initiatives.

An experienced speaker, Jenny has given keynotes at conferences and seminars nationally and internationally about trends and best practices.

Starting her career in Europe in software development she then moved to the United States in the early nineties, working in multimedia production. She later took up a role as Global Director of Engagement and Project Management for Zentropy Partners, (McCann Worldgroups interactive division), . In 2000 Jenny relocating to Sydney to head up McCann Relationship Marketing (MRM) Australia and went on to become Head of Interactive for MRM Asia Pacific.

Leaving MRM In 2002, Jenny set up Ideagarden Consulting and ran this successfully before being lured back to the world of advertising in early 2006 when she took over as managing director of Tribal DDB Australia where she ran the Melbourne and Sydney offices. In 2008, Jenny returned to Ideagarden to drive digital change from a broader industry perspective.

Scott Hillard, General Manager - Sales, Wine Selectors

Surviving the DNC apocalypse.

Scott Hillard joined Wine Selectors as General Manager - Sales in late 2005, a time when the company was almost totally reliant on Outbound telesales for new customer acquisition. Since then Scott has diversified acquisition streams, overhauled the contact centre, and launched a direct sales channel using tasting kiosks at airports and shopping centres around the country.

Prior to taking up the sales leadership role with Wine Selectors, Scott held senior sales management roles in companies as diverse as World Book, Harvey Norman and Olympus Imaging. With an Arts Degree in Psychology and Education, he pursued a Sales Management career in preference to taxi driving. A passionate laissez-fair capitalist with an interest in arcane lore, Scott relishes the opportunity to express an opinion on everything - in this case, how to business can thrive in the face of DNC.

Chris Washington-Sare, Head of Fundraising & Marketing, Greenpeace Australia Pacific

Sheba is the Managing Director of MMG Australia and also Australia’s leading authority in multicultural marketing. Under her leadership for over two decades, she has brought unprecedented growth for brands such as Telstra, Westpac, NAB, Qantas, Toyota, VISA, NRMA, Australia Post and Western Union in the multicultural markets. Last year, Sheba was appointed to the NSW Asia Business Council to assist in nurturing business relations with Asia.
